How did castles change over time and why were the changes made?
Castles changed from wood to stone. This change was made because wooden castles set on fire more easily and rotted but stone castles are more strong and safer places to live in.

5 How did castles changed over time? Why were the changes made?
Castles started out as earth and wood then changed to stone.
Wood was easier to set on fire and it rotted. The style of war had changed and the siege cost too much. The feudal system had changed.

6 Which part of the castle do you think offered the most protection against enemies? The moat. Why? Because it was filled with water and waste. Also cause it was too deep, you could also drowned.

Which part of the castle do you think gave the most protection?
I think the moat and the drawbridge gave the most protection because the moat is deep and the drawbridge always had guards to check who was wanting to enter the castle.

How and why did castles change over time? Introduction In this project I will be telling you how castles changed and why castles changed between 1066 and 1500. I will go through the 5 different castles and how they were attacked, improved and other useful information. I will use pictures and writing to explain. The reason why kings built castles was to protect them and to keep out their enemies. Motte and Bailey The motte and bailey were the first castles to be built in 1066 and William the Conqueror was one of the first to build them in England. Motte and Baileys were built from wood. On the top of the motte (mound) would be a keep where the baron would live. The motte was surrounded by a ditch, a palisade (wooden fence) and had a draw bridge. In the bailey (courtyard) would be some farm buildings and cottages where the servants...

1. Castles were built to keep out animals and invaders
2. The first proper castels were built in england in the roman conquest in 1066
3. The castels were to big and we dont have invades attacking us
4.The drawbridge is a moveable wooden bridge that keeps attackers away. It covers the moat
5.Castles were no longer needed as there was no threat from attackers .They became homes for the wealthy.
6.The drawbridge because it blocks the entry of the castle.
From TREE.

which part of the castle do you think offered the most protection?
I think the moat offered the most protection to the castle because its very deep so you cant swim through it and the only way to get through it is if you are aloud on the drawbridge.

CASTLES

Reseach-Castles
  1. They were built to provide safety and protection from attack and display the owners rank and wealth.
  2. castles were ofter built on hill top or surround ed by water to make them easier to defened.
  3. today it safety than, when the castles were built there were lots of battles and so those days is lot safe.
  4. curtain wall,it's a strong wall that built around the castle and it's protect the castle.
  5. castles change because the 10th century the fences were made out of wood,so now is made out of bricks. The change made because to make it more safer.
  6. Arrow and gun loops because not many people can shoot in the holes in the arrow and gun loops and the inside people can shoot the people in the outside.

questions 4

question 4
my pick is the gatehouse

The castle's entrance was its weakest point, so priority was given to building a strong gatehouse. Often this part of the castle was the first to be rebuilt in stone. The conversion of the gatehouse into stone protected it from attack by fire, but also from other kinds of assault.
Placing the gatehouse near a moat, keep, or other tower gave it added protection. Frequently, the protecting tower was built into the gatehouse, as at Pembroke, which is defended by adjoining towers.
Gate-towers appeared in the late 12th century. The first gatehouses were small square towers, with doorways at the middle of the bottom storey. They usually housed the castle constable. In the 13th century, architects added a pair of wall towers to flank and protect the gate. Eventually, the two towers merged into one large tower, which housed the guards or members of the lord's household. It also provided space for a prison, guardrooms, or larger living areas. Sometimes the gatehouse even served as a keep.

Feast for Lord Sherwood
Dear Aloysius – Please organise a feast for Lord Sherwood on Monday 3rd October 1700 for his birthday. Please tell the cooks to prepare Lamb, Pork and Chicken. Gather fresh vegetable from the garden and for dessert I would like apple and blueberry pie, fresh fruit from the orchard and cream and custard. For entertainment please organise jugglers, dancers and musicians. Please ensure the grand hall is neat and tidy and decorated.

Research - Castles
Why did people build castles? - For safety and protection from attacks and to show the owner’s rank and wealth.
Where were they built? - They were often built on hill tops because it had a good view of the surrounding area any approaching attackers. Some were built on low ground for water and food supply.
Why don’t we live in castles today? – Because they were damp, cold and had no electricity. They were expensive to keep running.
Choose one part of the castle that interests you – I thought the Blacksmiths shop was interesting because it would have been fun to work in there. It had lots of tools to use and always had a fire going so you would be really snug in winter.
How did castles change over time – They changed from wood to brick because the wood would rot and need replacing and bricks were much stronger and gave better protection from fire.
Which part of the castle offers the most protection – I think the Battlements offered the most protection because the guards who walked around the top could see the enemies approaching and kill them before they reached they castle.

Recipe from the castle kitchen
Banana smoothy
1 and a half bananasa tablespoon and a half of golden syrup2-3 cups of milk a half a cup of ice2 tablespoons of sugarPeel the bananas and chop them up, put them in a bowl, add other ingredients, blend together, and enjoy.

I enjoyed making this smoothie but it was a bit too sweet. I don’t think you need the 2 tablespoons of sugar as the golden syrup makes it sweet enough.

By Lukie

1 Why did people build castles? So they can protect the king and queen.

Also to protect the people that live in the castle as well.

It makes it harder to attack the king and queen.

2 Where were they built? They built them on a rocky outcrop.

They also built them on gaps on hills, also were built on borders of land.

Lastly they were built near rivers and seas.

3 Why don`t we live in castles today? Because the times have changed and theres no one to

acttack us. Also there are not many kings and queens around.

From early times, people have built protection around them .

Stone age people lived in caves, and made defences to keep out wild animals.
The first castles had built high walls to keep out invaders.
kings and nobles fortfied their large large homes to protect themselves.
the first proper castles were built in england and after the norman quest in 1066.

Choose 1 part of the castle that interests you
the gatehouse was the main entrance
to the castle so it needed to be heavily guarded.
it was defended by at least 1 portcullis which was a heavy
grilled door that dropped vertically down to protect the main
entrance. The castle might also contain murder holes and arrowloops
in the side walls The gatehouse would be heavily barred.
